Ramses the Burmese

I watched this little guy for 2 weeks while my friend was on vacation. He is the sweeeeeeeeeeeetest kitty in the whole wide world. All he wants to do is be next to you and watch what you're doing. He followed me everywhere and was my little shadow for 14 days.

He is completely codependent! Totally okay in a cat. Totally not okay in a significant other.

Petite Syrah

It took almost 2 hours to drive up to Santa Rosa to the Schulz Museum. To make the drive even more worthwhile, the Roommate and I decided to eat at Petite Syrah.

I'm an avid reader of sfgate.com (not in a pretentious way), especially the food section. One Sunday, I happened upon a review of Petite Syrah by Michael Bauer - just in time for our trip to Santa Rosa!

This was amazing.

Best dessert ever! Peanut butter cheesecake with chocolate and banana bruleé.

It was an amazing dinner. The dishes were small and meant to be shared. We split a total of 6 dishes, not including dessert. Everything we ate was delicious.

So worth it:

Charles M. Schulz Museum

I had been wanting to visit the Charles M. Schulz museum for years. I was so excited about going, I had trouble sleeping the night before (like every other night)...

I've always been a little obsessed with Peanuts and Charlie Brown. When I was in 1st grade (and I'm not kidding) my nickname was Charlie Brown, which explains a lot.

Mt. Tam totally kicked my ass. I am so sore! I hiked Mt. Tam with friends (Christine and Andrew) for the first time and although a grueling adventure for my unfit, out-of-shape body, it was a magical experience. We hiked a total of almost 8 miles starting at the Matt Davis Trail and then made our way to Stinson Beach. From Stinson we took Dipsea to the Steep Ravine Trail and arrived back at our cars.

Looks like this arm is in need of a good shave.

Cupcakes + Dog Biscuits

Last Sunday I took Franny and Margot to a dachshund meet-up. The group's organizer is having a baby so we threw her a surprise baby shower. She's having a baby girl, so I baked some pink cupcakes - strawberry and red velvet. I also baked some cheesy dog biscuits for all the doxies.

Mishi keeps blogging about the Cal Academy. She's so lucky she gets to volunteer and see the "behind the scenes" action. I can't wait until it opens!

Today I went to a bakery in Redwood City called Pamplemousse, which means grapefruit in French. I bought some very pretty, colorful and delicious macarons.

Mix Tape - Guitar Hero III

My favorite songs from Guitar Hero III:

I love Guitar Hero. When the game first came out, I thought it was lame - fake guitar wannabe rockstar video game. Boy, was I wrong. I became addicted to it when I tried it out at an electronics store. Being the loser that I am, I was glued to the game station for an hour at Fry's Electronics. Since then, I've been a huge fan. For Christmas, I bought my brother Guitar Hero III and I haven't played it until now. I've been so busy but now that I'm temporarily unemployed, I have more time to play video games. I've mastered medium difficulty but I'm horrible at hard. My pinky is just too weak to play the orange key. My brother is a true Guitar Hero. He's freakishly good and can beat every song on expert. He even tried to help me master hammer-ons and pull-offs so that I can get past the hard level. I'm still working on it and doing my pinky exercises.

Independence Day

Happy Fourth of July. Every year on the fourth of July, I don't think about America's independence from Britain or celebrating our country with fireworks and avoiding drunk drivers on the highway. I think about Will Smith fighting aliens with the President, Bill Pullman. I used to think Bill Pullman was cute, especially in While You Were Sleeping.

My sister and I enjoyed a nice afternoon shopping for groceries and cooking. We ate our dinner outside, even though it was uncomfortably warm and the sun was setting but shining directly in our faces and there were wasps buzzing all around our plates... It was still a nice dinner.

Of course, I just have to share a picture of my steak with blue cheese butter and a large helping of corn salad.

Flight of the Conchords

I just recently began watching HBO's Flight of the Conchords. I downloaded all the episodes off iTunes. I'm trying to not buy any more DVDs and CDs because of their wasteful packaging. Anyway, it's a really funny show.

Alice Waters + Chez Panisse

When I was in New York, I sometimes had to wait for the subway for what felt like forever. I bought a book to pass the time while waiting and riding the trains (like many New Yorkers). If you didn't already know, I love food. I especially love reading about food. When I saw this book on the shelf, I knew I wanted to read it and would thoroughly enjoy it.

Chez Panisse is a famous restaurant in Berkeley, CA. Alice Waters changed the way we cook today. She invented "California cuisine" and promoted the use of fresh, local and organic ingredients in cooking. If food interests you, this book is a must read. I'm letting my sister borrow it next.

Another great book about food is Tender at the Bone by Ruth Reichl one of my all-time favorites.

Potatoes Gratin

I made this for lunch today. I'm sure this isn't the "real" way to make potatoes gratin, but whatever. It's super easy and it tastes great.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

-potatoes

I use the small yellow ones with thin skin - not really sure what they're called

-heavy cream

I use about 1/2-1 cup, depending on how many potatoes I use

-grated Parmesan cheese

-salt and pepper

-herbs, whatever you have

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Clean and slice the potatoes very thinly (leave the skin... or take it off if you want). Put a layer of potatoes in the baking dish, season with salt and pepper, drizzle some cream and then sprinkle some herbs. Repeat this until the dish is filled. On the very top, sprinkle Parmesan cheese so that it will brown. Bake for about 35-45 minutes or however long it takes to cook. Let it cool for about 10-15 minutes. Enjoy!

Sorry these are really shitty cooking directions.

Mother's Day

I made brunch for my mom on Mother's Day. We had pancakes with berries, roasted potatoes, pork garlic sausage and spicy chicken sausage, omelets with bell peppers, cheese, and mushrooms, blueberry scones, coffee, orange juice, grapefruit cups, and coffee. Unfortunately, I was so busy cooking and getting all the food on the table, I completely forgot to take pictures before we started to eat. I remembered about half-way through our meal.
